Key Challenges & Project Details
- Colonial Parkway is a 23 mile scenic road connecting the York and James Rivers
- Highly travelled route, maintained by the National Park Service, through Virginia’s historic triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown
- Three lane roadway reduces impact on resources and provides traffic safety for motorists
- Federal Highway Administration contracted with Corman to remove two existing culverts that had been washed out by heavy storms and replace with precast box culverts
- Roadway was replaced with unique exposed aggregate pavement, which required tight quality control to replicate the existing pavement
- Project was successfully completed in a constricted time frame due to Colonial National Parkway’s spring opening
- No recordable or lost time injuries
