Key Challenges & Project Details
- Project designed to permanently lower the water level in two acre Hogge Pond by 3.4 feet to increase storm water runoff capacity
- Installation of temporary steel sheet cofferdams
- Project consisted of installation of two 10 x 4 box culverts, supported by timber pile foundations
- Pond bypassed using temporary pumps so that flows could continue from the pond to the James River outlet
- Installation of a permanent weir using vinyl sheet piling with timber cap
- Relocation of an 18″ ductile iron sanitary force main for the Hampton Roads Sanitation District
- Force main remained in service by the use of line stops and temporary HDPE piping to eliminate service interruption.
- Relocation of an 8″ ductile iron water main for the City of Newport News
- Placement of new fill, guardrail, concrete driveway
- Asphalt paving of Normandy Lane and Church Road
- Completed project on time and under budget
- No recordable or lost time injuries
